Obesity and COVID: The Interlinking
The Pandemic COVID is precariously impacting mankind across the globe. The new corona virus, SARS-CoV-2 is the primary attribute of the deadly COVID-19 infections. Despite the use of drugs like hydroxy chloroquine and Remdesivir for treating the viral infections and while the relentless efforts by pharmaceutical companies and research organizations are on their way to combat COVID-19, it was learnt from the recent studies that there is great connection of COVID-19 with Obesity.
The lifestyle disease, Obesity was linked with Diabetes and Cardiovascular diseases as well. From about seventy-five studies carried out at The University of North Carolina, the research findings emerged with an alarming inter-connection between COVID-19 and Obesity.
As per the 2019 reports of WHO, 38 million children under the age of 5 were obese and over 340 million children and adolescents aged 5-19 were overweight or obese in 2016. Looking at the statistics, one need to weigh the relatedness of COVID-19 and Obesity.
To be known that, people who are obese and were infected with novel corona virus may pose challenges in diagnosis and treatment of viral infection which are tangled with the obesity. However, age makes a matter in the complexity of the symptoms as well.
